Diane und Reinhold Messner: Lifetime – On the Value of Mortality
Lifetime is a book about aging and being young, about loss and happiness, about major expeditions and the small adventures of everyday life. In it, mountain climber and adventurer Reinhold Messner writes openly about growing old. The man who survived near-death experiences and so often climbed into the Death Zone of the world’s highest peaks now notices his strength is dwindling, his gait is slowing, the end of life is gradually approaching. The book combines his most poignant memories with existential questions. His wife Diane Messner is in the prime of her life yet still confronts mortality on a daily basis: With humor and heart, she shares little stories of the day-to-day, the goodbyes and new beginnings, exploring the question of what really matters in life. Together, the two have written a book about the preciousness of our lifetime – and how to make the most of it with courage and curiosity.
