lit.kid.RUHR celebrates reading! We invite children and young people of all ages and educational backgrounds to join authors, illustrators, and other exciting people on journeys into other realities.

The next lit.kid.RUHR will take place from October 7 to 12, 2025.

lit.kid.RUHR-KlasseBuch

The lit.kid.RUHR-KlasseBuch offers readings, discussions, and interaction for preschool groups and school classes from grades 1 to 13. New releases and classics, poetry, and nonfiction titles from children's and young adult literature meet children and young people in their everyday lives and open up new perspectives. Participation is free of charge.

lit.kid.RUHR family program

The lit.kid.RUHR family program invites children and young people to join their families and friends on weekends: great authors, actors, new releases, classics, popular children's books—all at special locations in the Ruhr region.

Take part in the writing competition!

This year, you can once again take part in the lit.RUHR writing competition and give free rein to your creativity. INCREDIBLE! – that's our motto this year. What comes to mind when you hear that?
Whether it's a short story, haiku, poem, or non-fiction text – you are completely free to write whatever you want. We look forward to receiving your text!
Einsendeschluss: 21.09.2025

Writing workshop

lit.kid.RUHR aims to promote a lasting love of reading, reading skills, and enthusiasm for language beyond the festival itself. That is why, with the support of the Mercator Foundation, it launched the lit.kid.RUHR writing workshop in 2018 to promote creative writing. Students in grades 5 to 13 from all types of schools are invited to participate.

More

#lassmalesen offers young people from a wide range of school types and social backgrounds the opportunity to engage with a book and its author while also learning about the field of event planning and organization. They are supported in independently organizing an author reading

of a book of their choice as part of the festival.
In this way, the students not only learn about the various professional groups involved in the organization and implementation of the festival, but their interest in literature is also promoted in a variety of ways.
