About Reinhold Messner
Reinhold Messner, born in 1944, is the most famous mountaineer and adventurer of our time. As a climber, high-altitude mountaineer, trailblazer, and “philosopher in action,” he has repeatedly set new standards. Messner was the first person to climb all fourteen eight-thousanders, including Mount Everest—the first to do so without supplemental oxygen and alone (“Everest Solo”). In 1989–90, together with Arved Fuchs, he successfully crossed Antarctica on foot. Today, Reinhold Messner, as an author and filmmaker, advocates for an ecologically sustainable approach to nature, manages mountain farms, and curates his mountain museum—the Messner Mountain Museum—with its six locations.
