It doesn’t matter if we celebrate with coffee, tea, champagne or schnaps, the most memorable parties are always the ones where something goes a little wrong, inhibitions disappear, barriers are crossed, something (or more than one thing) gets broken, and people are brought together in unexpected combinations. In literature, too, such celebrations – whether they be happy or fateful, large or small – are often high points.
