The new Ruhr writer-in-residence – Jens Balzer in conversation with Wolfram Eilenberger
Since 2017, the Brost Foundation has invited exceptional authors to make the Ruhr area their temporary home and discover the region through writing as part of the “Metropolenschreiber” program. Journalist and author Jens Balzer will be this year’s writer-in-residence starting in autumn. In his works, he keenly observes pop culture constellations of the past (including “The Unfettered Decade: The Sound and Spirit of the 1970s” and “No Limit – The Nineties, the Decade of Freedom”), societal discourses (“After Woke”), or – in comic form – philosophical ideas (“Salut, Deleuze!”). His book “Confusion Is Next – The 2000s: A Decade of Transformation” will be published in 2026. In conversation with a former writer-in-residence, author and philosopher Wolfram Eilenberger (“Das Ruhrgebiet. Versuch einer Liebeserklärung”), he will share insights into his wide-ranging oeuvre and his expectations of the Ruhr region.
