Sputnik – with Christian Berkel
Born in the shadow of the Cold War, Sputnik – as his mother calls him – grows up in West Berlin, which is riddled with upheaval, contradiction and history. Between his mother’s fantasy world and his father’s books, he begins to seek his role in the world. As a teenager, he flees to Paris, where he experiences the formative effects of literature, love and jealousy. He later returns to Berlin, into the midst of the 1970s theater scene, a time of artistic transformation and experimentation. In his new novel, actor and author Christian Berkel (“The Apple Tree”, “Ada”) presents the most personal part of his autobiographical journey – a captivating story about growing up in a turbulent time, about identity, origins and the power of memory. “Some people are born storytellers. Christian Berkel is one of them” (emotion). Host: Marie-Christine Knop
