The East, the West, the Ruhr and us. Ines Geipel meets Peter Neumann
Author and former world-class track and field athlete Ines Geipel is one of the most important journalistic voices in Germany’s post-reunification discourse. She is the author of Fableland: The East, the West, Anger and Happiness and most recently “Landscape Without Witnesses: Buchenwald and the Rift of Memory”. At this event, she meets author, poet and Die Zeit journalist Peter Neumann. At the invitation of the Brost Foundation, he is currently taking part in the Metropolenschreiber writer-in-residence program to discover and write about the Ruhr region. His latest publication is Mentalitäten: Wie wir besser verstehen, was uns trennt und was uns eint [“Mentalities: How We Can Better Understand What Divides Us and What Unites Us”]. These two perceptive diagnosticians of our times will discuss origins, radical transformation processes, mentalities that shape us and how we deal with historical legacies in both the East and deep in the West of Germany. Philosopher and writer Wolfram Eilenberger will guide us through the evening.
