About Ines Geipel
Ines Geipel, born in 1960, fled from Jena to Darmstadt in 1989 after completing her studies in German language and literature, and went on to study philosophy and sociology there. The central theme of her work as an author and editor is the history of violence in Germany, encompassing both the Nazi era and the GDR dictatorship. In 2011, Ines Geipel received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon; in 2020, the Lessing Prize for Criticism; in 2021, the Marieluise Fleißer Prize; and in 2023, the Erich Loest Prize. From 2001 to 2025, Ines Geipel was a professor of poetry at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. Her book Fabelland was nominated for the 2025 German Nonfiction Prize. Her most recent book, Landschaft ohne Zeugen, has been nominated for the 2026 Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the nonfiction/essay category.
