More stories from history! With Richard Hemmer and Daniel Meßner
Historians Richard Hemmer and Daniel Meßner are masterful storytellers, as they demonstrate as hosts of the successful podcast “Geschichten aus der Geschichte” [“Stories from History”] and as authors. In their new book Mehr Geschichten aus der Geschichte [“More Stories from History”], they explore incredible inventions and strange contraptions. One reason why this glimpse into scientific history is so fascinating is because the path to discovery was rarely direct. In fact, it was often the “detours” in the form of mysteries and chance findings which led to advances in scientific research – when an “oops” became a “eureka”. In 20 new stories, Hemmer and Meßner reveal which tools were elementary for the development of science, why a “unicorn” of all things played a crucial role in early paleontology and how many small decisions continue to change our world to this day.
