About Susanne Abel
Susanne Abel worked as a kindergarten teacher and then studied film. After completing studies, she directed numerous documentaries for German television. Since 2017, she has focused solely on writing. Her celebrated debut novel, “Stay Away from Gretchen” (2021), raced to the top of the Der Spiegel bestseller list and was a sensational hit, as was its successor, “What I Never Said” (2022). Her new novel, “Du musst meine Hand fester halten, Nr. 104” [“You Must Hold My Hand Tighter, No. 104”], was published in August 2025. Born in Baden and having lived in Bochum, Berlin and Hamburg, she is now mostly based in Cologne.
