About Philipp Oehmke
Philipp Oehmke was born in 1974 and grew up in Bonn. He studied German literature in Hamburg and completed a two-year journalism training program at the magazine Tempo. He obtained his Master of Science from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in 2001. Between 2002 and 2006, he was a journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, where he also published the 50-volume book series SZ-Diskothek. In 2006, he moved to take on an editorial role in the arts and culture section of the news magazine Der Spiegel. Oehmke headed up the New York bureau for Der Spiegel from 2015 until 2020 and now works as a Berlin-based writer for the magazine.
Oehmke authored a 2014 biography about the rock band Die Toten Hosen entitled “Am Anfang war der Lärm”, which spent several weeks in the top ten of the Der Spiegel best-seller list. His novel “Schönwald” was published in 2023.
