About Volker Kutscher

Born in 1962, Volker Kutscher studied German literature, philosophy and history. He worked as a newspaper editor and screenwriter before penning his first crime fiction novel. He is now a freelance author living in Cologne and Berlin. His 2007 novel “The Wet Fish” was the first volume of the crime series featuring police inspector Gereon Rath set in 1930s Berlin. It became an instant bestseller that was followed up by eight additional volumes and the series became the basis for the international television production “Babylon Berlin”. The novella “Moabit”, illustrated by Kat Menschik, became yet another best seller for Kutscher in 2017, followed by “Mitte” in 2021.
