The Mines of Falun – with Matthias Brandt and Jens Thomas
“The Mines of Falun” tells the oft-adapted saga of the sailor-turned-reluctant miner Elis Fröbom and his bride Ella. This story of a love with a tragic end has often been told in literature, including by Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Johann Peter Hebel. The tales of the literary outsider E.T.A. Hoffmann, who has his roots deep in the romance genre, reveal fantastical worlds in a unique, unfathomable interpretation of the material. His “Mines of Falun” resembles a nighttime journey through a loss of reality, and a final awakening in eternal love. This version is presented as a congenial collage of words and music. After their success with “Psycho”, “Life”, “Krankenakte Robert Schumann” [The Medical Records of Robert Schumann] and “Blackbird”, Matthias Brandt (vocals) and Jens Thomas (piano and vocals) present their new show at lit.RUHR.
